"Sessions " Open Mic

  • Art of Noize 821 Upshur St. NW, Rear Washington, DC (map)

Join us Sunday, June 23rd at 6 pm for our Sessions open mic hosted by Nerd the Poet (@nerdthepoet) and featuring Kenny Carroll (@Kennyc113).

Kenny Carroll is a writer from DC. He was the 2017 DC Youth Poet Laureate, and in 2019 received the Thomas Lux Scholarship from Sarah Lawrence. His work has been featured in Split This Rock, EcoTheo Review, Lamplack, and Poetry London among others. He is a Watering Hole, Brooklyn Poets, and Obsidian fellow, and was selected by Roger Reeves as a 2023 Cave Canem Starshine and Clay fellow.

If you have yet to join us for our monthly in-house open mic, Sessions is a flow session for poets, instrumentalists, vocalists, MCs, and anyone willing to share their art. It’s a space where artists are free to create and not required to be as formal as they are in other venues. Sessions is a space where artists are encouraged to expand the boundaries of their expression, connect with other artists, and play, sing, rap, or dance as if no one is watching. Participants have the choice of performing alongside DJ Freequincy or a live band.

Advance tickets can be purchased below for guarantee admission or at the door.
